Team Kindness Resources

Families and kids can help animals and show their kindness in many different ways! Your community needs you—and Kind Kids can make a big difference in the world.

For an excellent explanation of Humane Education and its value, please read Julie Bolkin O’Connor’s article: Humane Education: A Way to Motivate and Engage Students

jj-howlingApps and Websites

  1. Wooftrax: Download the app and every time you walk your dog, a registered shelter or rescue group receives funds. Exercise for you and your pup and funds for the shelter!
  2. Go to Freekibble.com and play a simple game. Every time you do, 10 pieces of kibble are donated. You can play every day!
  3. Download Cruelty Cutter and scan items at the store to see its animal testing status.

Community Activities and Involvement

  1. Take up a “Pennies for Puppies Collection” of your spare pennies. In no time they add up and you can make a donation. Your kids can do this with their class and make a big difference!
  2. Suggest a ‘Rounding Up Program’ at your favorite shops to support your favorite kind cause! This way, people can donate without going outside of their usual routine. If a shop owner is interested, they can speak to their bank about how to set up the program. Rounding up in action:  If a shopper’s total comes to, say, $10.72, the cashier would then ask: “Would you like to round up to $11.00? This month your change will be donated to our local animal rescue.”
  3. Support One-for-One Programs: For each bag of food purchased from BOGO Bowl a bag is donated to the rescue group. Look for local deals in your own neighborhood to support!
  4. Volunteer: Most shelters and rescue groups could use your help. Many organizations allow kids 16 and older to volunteer. A few, like NKLA allow kids 12 and up (supervised).
  5. Hold a bake sale or start a lemonade stand and donate to your local shelter or rescue group.
  6. Collect blankets, comfort items and other wish list items for your local shelter or rescue group and work with a group like Operations Blanket of Love (or start your own!) to help get it all distributed.

In Your Own Home:

  1. Foster: Many rescue groups rely on foster families to give rescued dogs and cats a temporary home until they find their forever home.
  2. Adopt! If your family is ready for a new pet, choose adoption rather than buying your pet from a breeder or pet store. It’s the kind choice! Adoption is Compassion in Action.
